Pregnancy Dance and
Mums & Bubs Dance

Preg dance HBBS.png

Everyday life does little to support either side, so we have to make time to connect, honour, and grow that sacred part of ourselves. Pregnancy is a dynamic time of physical, spiritual, and emotional growth, and it is our duty to take advantage of it as such. Revel in your goddess energy! You can increase your goddess energy by focusing your attention inward, listening to your body & baby, and moving with & embracing the changes of your body. When we meet in person and dance together, the power of this practice is increased. What one processes adds to the experience of another. Held in trust and acceptance, we can allow ourselves to go deep  and connect to primal power. This is childbirth preparation, mothering preparation, partnership medicine. Feeling the raw power of Mother Earth in her terrible majesty living in your heart and hips is your gift to the world.

Dancing in sisterhood stokes the primal fire of creation.

Waves dances are intuitive, self-lead dances that begin slow & gentle, build to a crest, and subside to calm. It is recommended to bring a blanket and pillow to take full advantage of the reflective rest after dancing.

We begin and end in circle with the opportunity, but no expectation, to share and question.

"The birthing journey requires us as women to get back to a sense of life basics where our connection to intuition and instinct are normal, rather than a forgotten means of expression. When implemented in pregnancy and labor, the birth dance enables a woman to connect to her feminine source without fear or shame."
(Maha Al Musa's "Dance of the Womb")

Dance with Bubs!

For caregivers and their little ones to enjoy movement together.

It's super fun!

Every Wednesday 9:15 - 10:15 at the Pioneer Hall in Port Chalmers.

We set up the space and put the funky music on; You set up bubs and get your groove on! Take a little time to let loose and jump around a bit, as if it's our communal living-room...!

Dance with Bubs is an idea for supporting anyone who wants to dance and move in their own way, in a safe and warm group of like-minded people, while also caring for little humans who depend on them.

This is a free event and we welcome koha from those who can afford to give (suggestion $5-10 or what you feel it is worth to you - there will be an orange purse at the table by the door and no one will be watching what you put in).

Please arrive around 9.15am to settle in. The music will be a carefully curated 5Rhythms-inspired playlist. That means it starts super slow and flowy, warms up gradually to a chaotic/fun peak, then gradually winds down to a relaxing sound bath. The playlist will be around 35 minutes long, so we will take a few minutes to get acquainted with each other and then start the music when we're all ready. If you arrive when the music has already started, no stress, just come in and settle yourselves in.

"Dance with Bubs" may mean caregivers carry their little one in arms or in a carrier, or wee ones might be comfortable resting in their pram, or on a blanket with some toys in a cushion-cordoned corner that we set up. Small dancers may dance among us. Our aim is to adapt to discussion and evolve as a community. All caregivers with any ages of children are SO welcome to join us!

For those who are interested in keeping the fun going after the dance, Story Time also starts at 10.30 on Wednesday at the Port Chalmers library, so this could be a great way to share a morning outing with your littlies in ÅŒtepoti's most charming suburb

See you on Wednesday morning!
